SILHILLIANS 44    KENILWORTH 20

REGIONAL 1 MIDLANDS

7TH SEPT 2024

Kenilworth travelled to local rivals and newly promoted Silhillians for the opening game of Regional 1 Midlands with a new look squad, captained by Ed Hannam. New faces included Centre Harry Bowser, back rower Harry Thompson, back rower Joe England, props Greg Curtis and Charlie Moffit and ex colts Joe Peppitt and Ellis Green.

Things started well for Kenilworth and they took the lead with a Will Morgan penalty. However, Silhillians took control with some relentless mauling and some good back play saw them score three converted tries, and one penalty to take a 24-3 lead. Kenilworth came back strongly and scored an unconverted try on the stroke of half-time from Chaz Hudson from a lineout catch and drive. Half time 24-8.

The large Kenilworth following took some hope from the late try but it was Silhillians who scored first in the second half through a penalty. Kenilworth then came back with another catch and drive try from Chaz Hudson and there was some further hope in the Kenilworth camp that a come back was on the cards at 15-27. It was not to be however and it was Silhillians who continued the try scoring.  Another consolation Kenilworth try from Paddy Grace was countered by a further Silhillians try and a penalty to close the game out at 22-40 to the home side. Will Morgan was the Kenilworth kicker with one pen and one con.

On the adjacent pitch the 2nd XV’s of both clubs played out an entertaining 15-15 draw. Ex colt Oz Kirwan scored the two Kenilworth tries, with Mark O’Connor adding a conversion and a penalty.
