SAT 21st SEPT 24
REGIONAL MIDLANDS 1
KENILWORTH 7 BROMSGROVE 81
Kenilworth suffered a heavy defeat in their opening home game of the season, conceding 12 tries to a ruthless Bromsgrove side, to leave the side pointless after three games. There were late changes to the team announced at the end of the week with Ed Hannam and Todd Freemantle dropping out and Jayde Cruickshank and Mark O’Connor starting in a new scratch centre partnership. Player coach Jon Lowdon stood in as substitute.
After conceding an early penalty Kenilworth then conceded four tries (two converted) before the half-time break. However, at the end of the half a solid scrum and good carries up the middle saw impressive flanker Adam Collingwood score a try, converted by Will Morgan. The optimism this gave the Kenilworth supporters, most fresh from their long walk from the Memorial Park to Glasshouse Lane, was short lived as Bromsgrove ran in a further eight tries (seven converted) with no response from Kenilworth.
Next up for Kenilworth is a trip away to mid-table Burton on Sat 28th Sept.
Kenilworth 2nd XV were also at home in Warwickshire 1 and they also went down 19-38 to Daventry 2’s. Kenilworth were leading at half time but a number of injuries saw them play the second half a man down for a long period and they conceded late tries to lose the game. Try scorers were Bobby Thompson, Sam Flowers and Tom Naismith. Sam Fountaine scored two conversions.
