VOLUNTEERING HUB
Volunteers are the mainstay of club-life at any rugby club, and Kenilworth is no different. From coaches, committees, coffee makers and car parking, almost every element of the club is run and managed by volunteers.
There are many ways in which people can volunteer – some needing specific skills and experience, and others needing simply enthusiasm and commitment!
As part of preparing for our new ground, we launched our #BUILDTHECASTLE campaign back in 2020, which was designed to raise the profile of volunteering at the club, both in terms of recognising volunteers for all they do, and attracting new volunteers. Speaking at a recent event, Club President Dom Carrick said,
‘Volunteers are what makes this place [the club] tick. Today we have 20 or so volunteers from all sections of the club, here to help us get the ground ready ahead of the new season. From skilled tradesmen and women doing the club a favour, to the rest of who are only too happy to tidy up around them, everyone is doing their bit [….] There is so much pressure on people’s time these days that the responsibility is on club to make accessing volunteering as straight forward as possible, fun and rewarding.’
Whilst taking a break from painting the changing rooms, women’s skipper Becky Hill said,
‘From a players’ point of view, we recognise and value the amount of hard work that goes on behind the scenes to keep things going, much of which is for our benefit; the players are expected to give back, and days like to today allow us to do that.’
